I served in the 101st Airborne Division. Here’s the thing about “patriotism”. As a vet, conservatives think I should support every bullshit war they get us into. Because “patriotism”. The left doesn’t hand me that “your patriotic duty” shit. I like that.

I agree with that. I also think it’s patriotism to say NO to war sometimes. Protesting the Vietnam war, the Iraq war, WAS the patriotic thing to do.

But that’s not the narrative that is spoken. We need to move beyond “patriotism” and say “communityism” or something that describes love of fellow human beings and not a government.
