Economic injustice and an overriding sense of purposelessness and meaninglessness created by an insanely consumer-based society and its tendency to make tens of millions of human lives expendable are the underlying causes of most mental health issues in the United States.

Throughout history all the other “ism”s had a tendency to “make human life expendable” as well. Throw In all the Monarchies and Religious systems as well. Perhaps it’s more a “human tendency” more than a single system. I think you are blaming the car when it is the driver.
