Monday is Mental Health Day. An important issue to remember is that any government which leaves tens of millions of people living with chronic economic desperation and anxiety is itself a primary generator of mental health issues.

As a primary care physician specializing in mental health I’m saddened by current high levels of mental distress. What saddens me more is knowing that most of it is avoidable. Mental illness is primarily caused by how we treat each other. I hope we learn this soon.
