This is how a Senator should talk.
We should put a 60% tax on the wealth billionaires accumulated since the pandemic started. That alone would pay for all out-of-pocket medical expenses for every person in America for a year.

Billionaires . Some use there money to invest into other enterprises or the stock market taxing them at that high of a rate will end in them not doing anything or looking in ways to reduce workers like in technology or some will move overseas ending in job losses for Americans.

The thing is, the wealth isn't stuff, it's expected future earnings represented as stock prices. The idea it can be taken and used is a mirage.

So you would expect Bezos to sell billions of dollars worth of AMZN stock and give the proceeds to the government because his company's stock value has gone up because the company has proven to be hugely beneficial during the pandemic?

We tax income. A tax on wealth is unconstitutional. Since you know that we are talking about paper gains, how would this even work?

Marianne, please consider reading @StephanieKelton's The Deficit Myth. @SenMarkey is right that the rich should be wayyyyy taxed, but we couldn't use their money to pay for stuff if we tried. It's not possible. That's not how it works. citizensmedia.tv/mmt-audio-c…

I'm from Massachusetts ... he's my senator ... I'm thrilled that he's speaking out ... I also agree ... in the early 1960's ... the highest tax rate was about 76% for those who made over $250,000 ... It's now down to about 35% for those who make over $450,000 ... what happened?

Although, we know from Stephanie Kelton that taxes do NOT pay for any of that. But yes, tax the shit out of the super rich.
