Just as there’s a special criminal category for violent assault that’s an expression of bigotry (hate crime), there should be a special category for violent assault (such as driving car into a crowd of protestors) that’s intended as a direct effort to suppress peaceable assembly.

There is no such thing as a hate crime. Murder is murder regardless of the intent behind the crime.
