Just as there’s a special criminal category for violent assault that’s an expression of bigotry (hate crime), there should be a special category for violent assault (such as driving car into a crowd of protestors) that’s intended as a direct effort to suppress peaceable assembly.

I absolutely agree. Only since trump has it been normalized to drive through crowds of people, and blame them for the death/injury committed. Just call people a "mob" and trump supporters think you can do anything to them I guess. Sad that right wing propaganda is so effective.
