“In our system the president’s authority is total. That’s the way it’s gotta be.” No it’s NOT total (we have a president, not a king. And no man, even the president, is above the law) And no it’s NOT the way it’s gotta be because it’s not the way it’s SUPPOSED to be. Civics 101.

No, our system has lots of checks and balances, and people in positions of power have ignored them. It’s unethical people, not the constitution, that’s broken. The constitution has multiple protections against this and they were ignored.

Because these were just (ill advised) WORDS, no actions taken (regarding forcing states to close or re-open during / after pandemic), over which Trump claimed "total authority". Trump never tried to exercise this authority, which you omitted from your tweet. 1 day trial balloon
To give just one example, a better constitution could prohibit any law that gives any executive power to president, or anyone else. That's 50% of Trump's shonky actions gone with a one clause change to a less shit constitution.

A wise system is built with the understanding that many people aren't ethical, particularly those who try to get wealth, power, and status.

Aye but if those checks can be ignored in the first place then, obviously, they weren’t very effective in the first place 🤷🏻‍♀️

So the constitution is useless. Yup.
Its a phoney system of "checks and balances" if it can be ignored. It is definitely the constitution that is the problem.
3
If the checks and balances outlined in the constitution are entirely dependent on our leaders following "norms" and there's literally nothing that can be done when bad actors can ignore them without consequences, I'd say the constitution is pretty broken.

I’m Indigenous, this constitution stole my people’s land. Doctrine of Discovery states “any land is up for grabs unless controlled by a Christian (White) Monarch”. So what you really mean is it’s good for White People. Are you co-signing White Supremacy?

It can be both, the constitution is a living document, that means it can be changed by things called amendments.
