Adam Smith, the main architect of free market capitalism, said it “cannot exist outside an ethical context.” Whether capitalism, tech, govt or something else, everything will be dangerous until we replace the question “How much $ will it make?” with “Is it the right thing to do?”

I agree. I doubt that Smith meant anything other than honoring a contract.

Adam Smith didn’t craft “capitalism.” He observed and uncovered observational truths from reality. When you deal with capital and business profit/loss is an essential system to regulate your efficiency. Economics doesn’t answer moral questions.

Adam Smith would be called a communist today. A lot of his ideas were more "radical" than certain modern US politicians who have been called that.

There is no architect of free market capitalism. Where you have free market trade, private ownership and competition. You have capitalism. Capitalism predates Adam Smith the problem is yall only look at European History
“The disease of never enough” I wish for our society to recognize this diagnosis. A true silent killer.
And you haven’t read Adam Smith
GOP Greed has been corrupting Capitalism my entire life and I am 86. They love to claim "strict interpretation" of the Constitution but have created a reality based upon Government of the privileged, by the privileged and for the privileged.

I'm starting to realize that a lot of people who architected capitalism would be horrified by what they see today.
