1/ “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” - Joni Mitchell. Many people admit how much they took for granted, how much basic freedom they felt was guaranteed & so we didn’t have to worry about. None of us thought any one man could do so much damage in such a short time.

2/ So what’s happening is a very cautionary tale. We don’t just have to wake up in a whole new way to fight off tyrannous forces in our midst; we’ll have to stay awake if we’re to guarantee they won’t reappear. Rarely have external events caused so much internal transformation.

3/ In order for the US to survive & thrive after this awful chapter, we’re going to have to start considering citizenship a basic aspect of a meaningful & well-lived life. No more political denial or complacency, or the next time we fall down we just might not rise up.

Yes, many of us did think this.

Yes, I see how damaging his presidency has been on the Middle East, how dare they break out in peace? That prison reform was a mistake as well, and I really hated contributing more to my retirement pre-COVID, it gave me a sense of anxiety. 🙄

ONE man didn’t do this, it took A LOT of breakdown, 40 years of politicians selling out from both sides of the aisle to bring us to this place. If Trump could so easily run rough shod over our supposed Democracy, it’s b/c it’s protections failed under the weight of corruption.

Early July 1970. Remember because that was the best summer of my life. Sorry I digress. Do you know how Joni is doing? I heard about some health issues.

A lot of people did think one man could do so much damage in that position. I'm glad you're an ally but this perspective doesn't help because it whitewashes that there were many people who could have and should have been listened to.

I like you and your politics, but when you say stuff like this, it makes me feel like you have no idea what people were going through before Trump got into office, or the incredible suffering experienced by immigrants, the global poor, or victims of wars under Democrat rule.

It's not ONE MAN. And if ONE MAN can do that in 4 years, let alone 8, then the system BEEN broken.
