Which matches EXACTLY the article I just read in the fantastic weekly German newspaper Die Zeit on an architect from New York. A lifelong Democrat exactly this feeling/situation described drove her to vote for Trump and (referring to the headline) that "she will do it again" /1

Sadly, we never were the country we thought we was. Cognitive Dissonance and thirst for power wont allow many to admit that though.

So sad. It just does not have to be this way especially with health and education

Great thread on the faulty social index cited in this op ed. Perhaps you could share this as well @marwilliamson
Is the US education system more on par with France or Uzbekistan? A thread on how 'social indexes' are calculated and why you should be cautious about using them. And how things that are obviously, glaringly wrong can be fact-checked true by the New York Times.

Fantastic article by Wade Davis “The unraveling of America” for Rolling Stone recently. Worth a read as well.

The perception of American greatness is really drilled in. I'm Australian, with no cultural or familial connections to the United States, only social and professional ones. The first time I heard America might not be the greatest country in the world, it was a gut punch.

I think that is the problem that many americans don't want to see the truth of where we are. Without awareness there can be no change.
