Only in a totalitarian society do we all have to agree with each other! No one has a monopoly on truth. We should always be willing to assume maybe someone else knows something that we don’t know, and at the very least isn’t a bad person just because they don’t agree with us.

Civility really is not taught as much as it used to be. We can still have a civil discussion without getting heated. The truth usually is somewhere in the middle of two extremes. That's why I listen to everyone.

The problem with the US is we only allow such formal freedoms as liberty to think and speak insofar as specific ideas and people don't really challenge the system and once they might, they know how to channel it into obscurity (or just remove anyone really threatening.)
