Murder is not heroic. Nor is self-defense. However, self-defense is justifiable.

Better question is why any adult would see a 17 year old as anything but naive and ignorant to the world, and find the situation upsetting and worth more thoughtful consideration and communication. We have a serious issue in communicating to respond vs understand right now. Sad.
