The root of the problem is very much individualistic. Individuals are voting out of fear instead of critically considering who they give their vote to. If you don't want to be complicit in political crimes, don't elect political criminals.

We were taught that greed is good, individualism comes before anything else, selfishness is a virtue, those with the most wealth are the strongest, the strong rule over the weak, empathy is a sign of weakness,etc. That’s how the Golden Rule and solidarity is destroyed.

This is just another form of voter-shaming and/or blame shifting.
