We need to take on the absurd canard that helping people will weaken them, make them dependent or disincentivize them. I’ve thought a lot about what’s given me whatever success I’ve had & I’ve realized main 3 things: 1) someone helped me 2) someone helped me 3) someone helped me.

Short term financial help from the government is a hand up. I fully support this. A hand out is when generation after generation rely on the government with no change in circumstance.

You know, you pretty much nailed it going through the history of this country. When MLK was killed, he was organizing a multi racial march of the poor. Some "coincidence", eh? Then years later, they come up with the trickle down bs. It's only gotten worse with Citizens United.
