There was an evil genius to tonight. He’s ushered in an era of political theater meant more for a television audience than for a political audience, pulling on uninformed heartstrings with outrageous lies combined with genuinely touching moments. He’s a worthy adversary. Game on.

I guess you mean we should take him seriously, that he is skilled at political cons of large audiences, we shouldn’t under-estimate him - and yet we can overcome this big challenge. Cool. Small critique - “worthy” feels a little too respectful and “game” a bit too trivial.

I'm aware. I'm deliberately taking it literally because, when I think "worthy opponent," I think, say, the popular image of Erwin Rommel or the Red Baron. "Well, they were on the other side, but they were noble and they were competent!" I don't see those traits in the 2020 RNC.
