The problem is not that a bunch of corporate CEOs sit around thinking about ways to hurt people or planet, because they don’t; the problem is that they don’t think it’s their job to have to think about it one way or the other. That’s how an amoral system produces immoral results.

Incentives work. There is no way morality will ever overcome profit unless you force companies to define profit to include environmental impact - by taxing specific harmful processes and practices. CEO's would be falling over themselves to be green. It's not hard to do.

Completely - regulations aren't the enemy of the free market, they are the guarantor of it. If companies cheat and hurt people, load costs onto government, that's NOT the free market. That's corruption. Corporations operate IN society not ABOVE it.
