What Republicans and some Democrats call “far left” refers to policies (free healthcare, etc) that in most European countries are considered mainstream and moderate. In those countries, our slavish devotion to trickle down economics is what would be considered extreme.

I don’t agree. Not every rich person is a greedy bastard. This has to do with systems, not individuals.

It's not a matter of greed, it's a matter of everyone believing that if they oppress their workers/customers or cheats on their taxes a little less, whoever simply continues with business as usual will grow and in a few years buy them out. There is a systemic incentive here. /1

Its a bit like once upon a time here in Massachusetts, Wang & Digital (Which both built their buildings Union, thanks.) were great companies to work for. They had great benefits and pay package. If all companies were like that we would not need Unions. Digital the family company.
