What Republicans and some Democrats call “far left” refers to policies (free healthcare, etc) that in most European countries are considered mainstream and moderate. In those countries, our slavish devotion to trickle down economics is what would be considered extreme.

MW. If you want to adopt a free healthcare policy from another country then it stands to reason you would have to adopt all of that country's policies. You can't pick & choose. Maybe I'll pick a policy from a country that makes you wear a burka, but gives you free healthcare.
