What Republicans and some Democrats call “far left” refers to policies (free healthcare, etc) that in most European countries are considered mainstream and moderate. In those countries, our slavish devotion to trickle down economics is what would be considered extreme.

If you look at polling data, those "crazy" ideas are mainstream here, too (even among Rs). Just not with the donors, so we can't have nice things.

You may think the European approach to healthcare is the way to go, but when they tell you it'll be six months to see a specialist or to get an MRI, or when your pregnant wife is in labor and they send you to another hospital because this one is full, you may think twice.

America is like the Malboro Man wildly independent and self reliant... Until the cancer comes and then we realize we are all in this together.

Agreed. I’ve heard both Democrats and Republicans refer to certain policies or ideologies as “radical leftism.” I know radical leftists and they absolutely laugh at those same policies and call them moderate liberalism.

Paraphrasing Chomsky, "To hear an Eisenhower speech today, you'd think you were listening to Bernie Sanders." We now have a two party plutodemocracy n.A deceptive pseudodemocratic government that is, in fact, a hopeless hypercapitalist plutocracy.

And what they say is free isn’t even free. Every hard working American pays into it and is able to get something free at the point of service instead of a bill that bankrupts you. Wise investment for all.

America hypes individualism to disproportionate levels. European countries and Canada have a better social balance. America is like the other end of the spectrum with North Korea at the opposite end.
