What Republicans and some Democrats call “far left” refers to policies (free healthcare, etc) that in most European countries are considered mainstream and moderate. In those countries, our slavish devotion to trickle down economics is what would be considered extreme.

Those countries are not doing so great now. They are countries with a much smaller population. And now with open immigration, welfare for all is failing. They cannot sustain so many unemployed people.

We have both. What's wrong with one not excluding the other? Not that I'm a fan of neoliberalism, it sucks. But what I see happening in discussions by Americans is that everything can only be one OR the other. I think life would be better if you'd let go of that.

The free-at-point-of-use healthcare that the US media insists is Soviet Style Marxism has been in placed in the UK (as The National Health Service) since the end of the 2nd World War. The government has not been even remotely Socialist since Thatcher.

all true but the austerity measures about to be imposed on us were thoroughly tested in Europe first which is partially why there's such a fascism problem there now
