Our entire system should be reimagined and transformed. In Germany, police recruits are required to spend 2 1/2-4 yrs in basic training to become an officer. Basic training in the U.S. can take as little as 21 weeks (or 33.5 weeks, with field training). google.com/amp/s/amp.theatla…

This is a good idea. Requires more funding to get done though. Isn't that the opposite of what democrats are demanding?

Or maybe don't act like you're going for a gun.

you can't get rid of racist and white-supremacist culture of police department just through training. It's not like as if the autraocities they are committing are just unprofessional mistakes. These are deliberate and rooted in police culture.

Before training ... comes character ... anyone applying to become a ..."Humanitarian Worker"... should be required to pass a psychological test ... the insure they have the emotional and intellectual intelligence ... to help people! ...

This is great! However, teaching someone to not be racist is task that is much harder to accomplish. All of this stems from police being afraid of people that don’t look like them, and deeply rooted hatred. I like your idea though!

Police tweet removed! In UK it used to be called Police Force - changing to Service. It was an unarmed force set up between a lawyer and army. USA s losing the plot and inciting riot, rather than defusing it. Needs review and retraining - not an outlet for bullies to have power.

It’s absurd that so many confrontations between *multiple* officers and a single regular person result in murder or extreme violence. Officers either lack physically fitness, proper training, or violence is the point, or all three.
Training isn't the issue. What cops are doing is not academy training. Take that for every cent it's worth. Police are just people. They're protected as though they're above the law. That's the problem.

Wait till you hear how many hours we make barbers and hairdressers do for training. (Hint: more than cops!)
