Love should be more important than politics but it doesn’t in many families. Distancing yourself from a family member who chooses money or fame or a job over their desire to care for you is sometimes the healthiest thing. Especially when it’s your mother.

The “still your mom”response to children sharing experiences can be really harmful. There are points when it’s healthiest to move on. Especially in physically/emotionally abusive relationships. Trying to convince a child that “they’re still your mom” can allow for continued abuse
