A basic fundamental problem, seemingly universal among Republicans and covertly present among many Democrats, is an ideological aversion to the idea that governmental resources should be used to help people.

The main job of our elected officials is to do as little as possible. They have been richly rewarded by the status qua & don’t want to tamper with it.

Thus pejorative terms like "Big Government". Bad timing that a man who led "progressives" in the Reagan Revolution's fight against Big Govt and for Trickle Down Austerity is now the progressive party leader and next POTUS? We need stimulus & they're talking about bare cupboards.
