A basic fundamental problem, seemingly universal among Republicans and covertly present among many Democrats, is an ideological aversion to the idea that governmental resources should be used to help people.

GOP tends to believe in the survival of fittest. Less assistance than what is offered by Dems. Just the way it is.

For example Ted Kaufman’s statements about the need for austerity because of the debt.
Yes and the fact that those “governmental resources” stem from taxes we pay makes it an even more ridiculous and irrational view.

It's connected to the idea that government help ends up doing harm; but Universal Basic Income is a way it can work.

That is only partially true. There also seems to be a belief that government must help the rich people because it will trickle down as they become richer. But the resources the government uses belongs equally to the rich and poor.

Correction: help people other than the 20% stockholders/ stakeholders who own shit (& vote in high numbers by the way) & the 2% filthy rich who own half of everything.

Government doesn't have resources. They only have tax dollars from American workers. Half of Americans pay no tax.
