A basic fundamental problem, seemingly universal among Republicans and covertly present among many Democrats, is an ideological aversion to the idea that governmental resources should be used to help people.

People can’t be trusted, Marianne!
They're averse to giving up their rich donors' money, which they would be doing if they didn't do their bidding.

Democrats unwilling to help 99% is not covert; just slightly less on-blast as Republicans, imho.
there are no "governmental resources". There are the resources created by those who work. It is unlikely that we could think of anything crazier to do with those resources than what the government does with them (e.g., hand hundreds of billions to Trump to hand out to corps...)

Unless the underlying assumption is that there are better, faster, more effective than ways to help people than running money through Washington. As a lifelong entrepreneur, my guess is that like me you’ve seen more solutions created entrepreneurially than bureaucratically.

Its like the capitalistic class causes the need for charity & makes the bum out 2B bad guy. Tom Paine had thoughts since man inherited earth he should get a stipend at age 21. Warren Zevon had it right, "Where can a bum find bed & board, when you gonna make it stop raining lord?"
