At what point do we admit to ourselves that only an insane society risks massive loss of life among its children in order to procure the ability to risk massive loss of life among their parents in order to avoid massive losses of money among those who don’t care about either one?

Societies are by definition large enough to almost never be insane. Foolish yes. Stupid sure. But if you think a society is insane you should probably look for deeper insights.

I'm just another human like you and likely not all that insightful. You think calling out Nazis as insane will protect current and future humans? I think understanding the bad guys as a real thing that existed in the world is a better way to protect against them and their ideas.

The sad truth is people are not rational. There R many assumptions about society, economics, and utility that all depend on the assumption that people are rational. SIMPLY NOT TRUE! Sadly, they can be trained to do things against their own self-interest just as any other animal.
