Using economic rather than humanitarian principles to organize human society has brought us to where we are. It’s important for all of us to remember that, because on the other side of this we should commit to never making that mistake again.

My generation asked how could our ancestors allow one man to kill millions, and now we need to be accountable to the next generation. There is no room for complacency.

What's hurting us is not economic principles but unquenchable greed by the ruling elite. The formation of monopolies; impunity of crimes committed by the rich and well-connected. And above all, rampant, widespread ignorance by the population.

Yes. And what is lost on those who only see productivity in terms of money is that when humanitarian principles even basic ones come 1st, society thrives. When everyone's health is supported by Medicare 4 all, potentials for high productivity and a vibrant economy increase.

Creating a society that is more resilient to pandemics and disasters should be a national goal. But that would require supporting the family units, so that they are more resilient to these disruptions.
