Americans are now pathologically habituated to asking “Pretty please?” for things that can literally mean the difference between life and death, from a system that’s pathologically habituated to telling them no as often as it says yes. And only the people can change this.

When Reagan was president he famously said, “The most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.’” What brilliant propaganda that was; what better way to steal a person’s power than to make them say, “Take it! I don’t want it!”
