1/Re-opening schools before we have the virus under control is immoral and insane. We’re exposing American families to danger for no other reason than to serve the sacred cow of an economy that doesn’t really work for them anyway. #SupportKidsAndTeachers

2/ I realize many parents need their children to go back to school so that they can get back to work, but that’s due to an economic desperation they shouldn’t be experiencing. Every American should receive $2k/mo. for as long as the pandemic lasts, much like every other democracy

...and the idea that schools are being warned that if they don’t open they will not receive federal funding. It sounds to me like blackmail. Risking lives all for what?Trump’s personal economic/political agenda?-Sounds eerily too familiar.

The economy isn’t some nebulous concept. It is what we call the way humans produce the goods and services they use to support themselves and their loved ones. It’s not lines on a graph going down. It’s real people really suffering.

Well, if we are going to keep public school closed, we shouldn’t pay the teachers. Let them feel the lockdowns like the rest of us. I’d like to see if they gain intestinal fortitude that way to face the virus like other essential workers.

It’s not just about the “sacred cow” of the economy, it’s about not “cowing” to irrational fear. Risk/reward assessment is something we do every day; why is covid any different? We’re teaching our kids to hide from life and trust me there is almost nothing worse than that

We're years away from a vaccine and need to prepare to never re-open schools.

Congress can still subsidize small business payrolls to keep quarantined employees on payroll and insured. Germany has done this with success. They have a low 6% unemployment rate.
