It’s an obvious question, but why aren’t the mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon having a high-level televised meeting with social justice and Black leaders, making it a kind of statewide zoom Town Hall? It’s clearly not enough anymore to just say “We need to do better.”

I live in Portland, and you hit the nail on the head. Conversations are NOT happening. My husband is the media producer for the city counsel meetings and these conversations are not even being suggested currently. Our mayor is a coward.

@tedwheeler isn’t a white supremicist, he’s a coward. I’m certain he has a world of pressure on him from the police union that we know nothing about. But he’s being paid to serve the citizens.

We need people to know that what’s happening here isn’t violent anarchist rioters. Portland is not a war zone. What you are seeing is basically a 4 block radius of downtown. The people protesting are the citizens of the city.

The city counsel has made positive changes to police oversight, but it’s far from enough. We need to end qualified immunity.

We desperately need conversations to be had. Open. Public. Conversation. Not yelling. Not screaming over the POC of this historically racist city as they are desperately trying to get their voices heard.

Don't make @tedwheeler into some sort of hero - he really isn't. All he cares about is political convenience. Help call him and the rest of city and state government out
