It’s an obvious question, but why aren’t the mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon having a high-level televised meeting with social justice and Black leaders, making it a kind of statewide zoom Town Hall? It’s clearly not enough anymore to just say “We need to do better.”

Marianne, I am a lifelong Democrat. Oregon will look a little more red in the fall due to weak leadership in Oregon. Our Governor has been disconnected and detached. Please come to Oregon and help facilitate discussions.

Once I can physically do that, I would be glad to.

I live in Portland, and you hit the nail on the head. Conversations are NOT happening. My husband is the media producer for the city counsel meetings and these conversations are not even being suggested currently. Our mayor is a coward.

We need to be having a charrette at the local level to solve these issues. Much like the recent movie Best of Enemies portrays. The only way to solve these problems is by asking what others need. Instead of this patriarchal idea that govt knows best.

Because there isn't any leaders to meet with.

we need law and order. There is absolutely no excuse for this continued arson, anarchy, rioting, and lawlessness. Same would not be tolerated in most other parts of America. I choose law and order over anarchy.

And the obvious answer is that the mayor and governor are beholden to big money interests - developers and for-profit prisons. All they are allowed to do is mouth platitudes.
