This is more pie in the sky dreaming. If it were possible a politician would run with a promise of free Medicare and win. Both parties know the country, with a 26T debt, cannot afford it.

If people had free healthcare think of all the more discretionary spending they could do. Think how much healthier and happier they would be at work, how much more productive & less stressed they would be. All that means money. That is how we would pay for it.

The people that I see that have free healthcare are not at work anyway. They are not. But yes, it is a great idea just as military protection for all is a great idea.

Free health care would increase taxes to such an extent (Bernie’s figure was, I think, 30Trillion over ten years) that there would be no such thing as discretionary spending. The country would go into default on the federal debt...and, boom, we’re Venezuela.
