This idea is radical. It has always been radical. It is the radicalism of the American experiment. We need to hold it in our hearts with radical devotion and radical commitment and refusal to let it go: THE GOVERNMENT’S PURPOSE IS TO SERVE THE PEOPLE.

We were born of a country of radicles but change is needed again. We have have a living breathing document that guides us called the Constitution. The ideals we value in that will endure forever. But as a living document it justly evolves to reflect the view of the people.

We can be more platitudinous than that. Its purpose is to do good, not bad. Either way, your amorphousness or mine, we can just fill in whatever serves our own interests and denounce anything that doesn’t, all in the name of “serve” or, if you prefer, “good” and “bad.”
