This idea is radical. It has always been radical. It is the radicalism of the American experiment. We need to hold it in our hearts with radical devotion and radical commitment and refusal to let it go: THE GOVERNMENT’S PURPOSE IS TO SERVE THE PEOPLE.

Did the government ever served people?

Yes, and we are dishonoring our ancestors when we fail to acknowledge how many sacrificed even to the point of sacrificing their lives to make sure it did.

Actually, it was always framed from its inception, to serve the wealthy few. That is why only white, male land owners were permitted the right to vote and the Senate was created to protect the class of the opulent. Better than a Monarchy but still based on rule by the few.
