THANK YOU. Everybody needs to memorize this statistic because you might actually have to repeat it to some people in the weeks ahead.
In the midst of a civil war, one that for Americans was the deadliest armed conflict in history, 150,000 Union soldiers voted by mail in 1864. Their votes helped ensure the re-election of President Abraham Lincoln, the preservation of the nation, and the end of slavery.

“Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his posterity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others.” Abraham Lincoln

How long would it have taken them to vote in person?

Coincidentally, 150,000 is also tragically the number of Americans who have died from coronavirus (so far).

You mean Abraham Lincoln was not a legit president either?
Replying to @marwilliamson
Don't waste time memorizing this number. It's wrong. Civil War soldiers often voted "in the field" where the ballot box was brought to them. Many more voted by proxy. And even some were denied by their states. Remember, there was no "vote by mail" option in many states then.

Please dont let this guy worm his way into being valid. Project Lincoln and his overall charade are attempts to add more right wing policy into the Dem platform, under the guise of "respectable" Bush/Reagan types. They are not allies.

Same thing would happen today in wartime. Real question is- If Lincoln had a rampant disease, killing Americans, and a nation so scared that they do not even want schools open, would he delay an election a for a few months if he knew that meant everyone would be safe? #TRUMP2021
