Violence is never a good thing, but protests are often a good thing. Our founders protected the right to protest for good reason. Treating peaceful protesters as though they are rioters undermines a sacred first principle of our freedom. pbs.org/newshour/show/portla…

"Peaceful protest" is a thing of the past, because it doesn't work. Power doesn't yield to polite requests. Nothing changed until strategic violence started getting their attention. This is moving from protest, to civil unrest, to civil insurrection. A tipping point, right now.

History absolutely reports otherwise. From the Indian Independence movement to the Women's Suffragette movement to the Civil Rights movement, peaceful protest changed the world.

I get your point, but it's more nuanced than that, according to my own study of history. The strategy of Gandhi/King style "nonviolence" is to provoke violence from the oppressor's goons for the benefit of an audience that, if swayed, will intervene against the oppressor.
