1) We're in the middle of what's essentially an authoritarian takeover of the United States. Democratic Party leadership has completely underperformed, mounting an ineffective opposition to Trump's illegal behavior - even now doing as much to acquiesce as to oppose it.

That is what the Democrats have been doing for the past 50 years. We wouldn't be in this mess if the Democratic party had done their job as an opposition party. But they sat on the sidelines and watched our country go down hill, often helping the Republicans.
