1/ Traditionally the Right has focused on issues of private morality while the Left has focused on issues of public morality. But framing things in a moral context is important because people are hardwired for it; when it's absent they're more vulnerable to a counterfeit version.

2/ We need to describe war and peace as a moral issue, mass incarceration as a moral issue, economic and criminal injustice as a moral issue, environmental desecration as a moral issue. Why? Because they ARE! People acting like we're to cool to use the "M" word has cost us a lot.

Ah ok. Understand you a bit better there. "Morality" makes me nervous as it implies to me people need to live a certain way. Your morality is imposed on me basically.

But it's not. And avoiding the discussion because we're afraid of that has made millions of people think the Left doesn't consider values, which couldn't be further from the truth. Each of us can and should weigh in on public values, I think. If it's only them, look what happens!

Yeah I hear ya. Left & right are a false dichotomy I think. It's more so to do with democracy versus oligarchy. The 1% and the politicians -overflowing with plenty of morality - in their back pockets which is the real divide.

Did you ever consider living in Europe for a while btw? I totally agree with you.. but I think things are framed differently in Europe than the U.S. Just an idea. 👍
