1/ If riots or any other type of emergency is going on in a state, a governor can ask for federal help. If they don’t, it’s because they don’t believe the situation warrants it.

2/ Oregon’s governor didn’t ask for help because she didn’t want it, and she & the mayor of Portland have made it clear the federal troops are unwelcome. TBW says they’re rolling out a plan this week to invade other cities as well, where presumably they will be equally unwelcome.

3/ I use the word “invade” deliberately, to counter the false Trump narrative that the federal troops are there to help, to provide “Law & order.” That’s an old political canard. The troops being lawless themselves, they can hardly restore law and order.

4/ In 1963 JFK sent federal troops to Alabama to force George Wallace to desegregate the U of A. So yes, a president can send in troops. But what’s going on now is nothing but tough guy election year theatre. It’s an unneeded dog whistle with illegal behavior by untrained troops.

Could you imagine if Obama had sent in Federal Troops to Texas or some other state? This is how divide and rule works people, they want you to choose a side and support that side as if you are at a Jim Jones Barbecue and he is offering you up a nice glass of Kool-Aid.

Everyone should image if @BernieSanders won 2016 and today with pandemic: 1. Everyone has #MedicareForAll 2. #DefundThePolice long time 3. No police brutality 4. No Wars 5. Removal all sanctions 6. Temporary #CancelMortgagesandRents 7. Temporary #UBI 8. More humans living

Unrelated, but do you have any thoughts on the Dems platforming noted anti-queer, anti-woman Republican John Kasich at their national convention?

If that’s the case they should reach out to the Governor & mayor and ask if there’s something they could do to help or whether they felt the local police had the situation under control. We need to protect our Constitution more than we need to protect the façade of a building.
