When all this is over, we need to pass a law that every state require at least half a year’s civics education in middle school or high school on the basics of the US Constitution. It’s terrifying how many Americans seem not to have a clue.

I’m also going to do my part to push for a comprehensive African American history curriculum in US schools.

Unfortunately, this will never be over. This is just the beginning of the end. We are so fucked. 😑

Knowledge that is useful instead of useless data that needs to be memorized to pass a test and never need again. Other great class suggestions: how to save money, how to balance a checkbook, how the stock market works, understanding insurances and how to know how much is enough

That would be great but if the text book does not truthfully lay out the History of the us governments and it’s role in oppressing black brown citizens. It’s all for not!!! #truthfulhistory #inclusivehistory

Wait, you don't have mandatory civics classed in the US?....

Absolutely. 8th grade Civics teacher here - Boston. My state requires 8th graders take Civics and complete a civic engagement project by the end of the year. I would bet my students, many born in a different country, have a better understanding of the BOR than 60% of US citizens

Agree. What about a focused, 3 week mini course every term of every grade, using current issues? I do that, and it works pretty well.

I think it's more likely that people simply don't care. And it's hard to blame people for that when the system is so illegitimate.
