When all this is over, we need to pass a law that every state require at least half a year’s civics education in middle school or high school on the basics of the US Constitution. It’s terrifying how many Americans seem not to have a clue.

I agree, but also teach the real US History. I’m talking Howard Zinn style.

When did this stop? I remember studying US Constitution in 8th grade and having to memorize Preamble, Beginning of Dec of Independence and part of Gettysburg Address. We were tested on same in front of class.

Agreed. What I will say, it was nice to see someone on the debate stage in "19" that was in the ilk of " Naomi Klein / Chomsky " Saying terms like " State Sponsored Crime". You'd make Zinn Proud if he were alive. We need more direct statements like that! :) Thank You!

Leave out the nonsense about “white privilege” and “safe spaces” and use that extra time to teach what the Constitution embodies. Great idea.

We have one though

Many adults don't. I give a 50 question civics test and many only get 15 right.

@wirelesshogan has a non-rasist and less land grabbing-oriented version... I wish that could be taught instead. markcharles2020.com/s/Week-1…

The constitution is a flawed document. We should be teaching critical thinking, epistemology, creativity, and love.

I couldn't graduate hi school in unless I passed US civics. Required education. When/why did that stop?
