So was I, but I soured on those pieties during the Vietnam war. These behaviors expose the dark heart of our beginnings as a nation. I take hope from millions of passionate young people.

This society disgusts me: these indignities make me despair. Despair is a luxury, I know, but it is how I feel on watching this violence.
