The federal analog to this will be dismantling the Pentagon, CIA, and DHS, and investing the trillions we’ll save in establishing a Department of Peace with a mandate—and resources—to support multilateral institutions and help ameliorate international conflicts before they erupt.

After the 9/11 attacks we created the office of homeland security. The office of peace could tackle the problems of mass shootings, hate crimes and build social bonds throughout our communities. I like the idea of this office and having peace as the focus and objective.

Great idea. But we won’t have a department of peace until we we have a department of anti-greed. Whilst our focus remains on accumulating wealth and power we will continue to fight others to get more of it- no peace. Perhaps it is time we stopped trying to treat the symptom?
