I’ve felt for a long time there’s a way to handle the confederate statue issue in a positive way.1) Remove the statues and store them in a museum somewhere, & 2) Have local & national contests for contemporary artists to replace them in the places where they once stood. #artheals

The Germans don’t have statues of World War II Nazi leaders to remind the German people of their history. A statue in a public place is a sign of honor and should be reserved for that.

Replying to @marwilliamson
Do you think that’s the best way to learn from history? By utterly silencing the dissenting opinion by making it illegal to speak out about that opinion? Is that how America should be? Who gets to decide which opinion is allowed?

No - the reminders of the Holocaust in Poland honor the victims & heroes, not the perpetrators! And a comparison between slavery & the Holocaust is not “complete ignorance” at all. Both involved collectivized expression of pure evil and massive suffering among millions of people.
