I’ve felt for a long time there’s a way to handle the confederate statue issue in a positive way.1) Remove the statues and store them in a museum somewhere, & 2) Have local & national contests for contemporary artists to replace them in the places where they once stood. #artheals

Throw them in the river. You don't need racist statues to teach history in muesems. I'm real concerned for a lot of y'all who think muesems are filled with statues nobody wants. When's the last time you've been to a history museum? 6th grade field trip?

The ones actually from the Civil War era can go in museums, the rest should be melted down into free COVID-19 vaccines

you'll just end up with a museum of racist art as a shrine for white nationalists. any that aren't destroyed will eventually be manipulated by racist southern pride cracker politicians into being reinstalled with 24/7 confederate honor guards. fuck that, steal & melt 'em down.

Why do they have to be torn down though? Why do we equate historical significance with societal significance? If a statue offends you, you’re an idiot. Statues are made of lifeless material and have no ability to be offensive AT ALL, they have no agency or human traits.

Or maybe let the people vote on whether to remove them or not?

The Germans don’t have statues of World War II Nazi leaders to remind the German people of their history. A statue in a public place is a sign of honor and should be reserved for that.
