I understand “defund the police” isn’t the best language, but where was all the outrage when they were defunding education, defunding Headstart, defunding hunger & anti-poverty programs, defunding violence prevention programs, defunding peace projects & defunding social services?

Fascism is taking over
They're fine with defunding until the ask is to defund something white people rely on to continue their oppression.

Abolish the police. It's what we need to do. This system was literally crafted to enslave black people.

I think defund the police is great, it makes people pay attention.

The outrage was channeled into unlawful drone strikes and police brutality. That's how the military and police ended up with such huge budgets.

Reform! Is a better word!
Defunding police would help those other programs back. Instead of governments putting all of the money only in one place to encourage violence. Police aren’t mental health workers, and so on. And they shouldn’t be called for everything.
Some of that funding should go to health care workers, drug counselors, that should be working with police to de-escalate situations. And if a person is dressed up as a war officers, common sense is they will act like one. What is it going to hurt trying something new?
