1/ False positivism is when you pretend things aren’t really so bad when in fact they are. The most positive thing is always to tell the truth, and sometimes that means shedding light on something that’s negative.

2/ There’s a common Holocaust tale about people who would say to their neighbors, “Have you seen Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz and their children recently? No one seems to know where they are!” And the response would be, “Oh let’s not discuss unpleasant things! Let’s just be positive!”

We can’t keep using positive platitudes to shield our collective ignorances. So many people were comfortable in the systems before that didn’t work, and would love for nothing but blanket positivity and a return to “life as we knew it”

What we want is to get good at transforming the difficult and painful in to the meaningful and valuable, not pretending it doesn't exist. To have hope in the face of the honest difficulties we face.

Being positive is being proactive; trying your best to do what you can to make a situation better. Have the positive mindset to say "I can make a difference if I take responsibility and do the best I can."
