1/ A fraction of work done by police require guns & the use of brute force. Vast majority of it would better be done by social workers, non-violent communicators and citizen patrols. We should stop mocking such ideas as ridiculous and instead start asking how to make them happen.

2/ Police training today, in addition to being ridiculously short compared to other countries, involves no real peace-keeping skills. Our police need to schooled in the ways of soul force & in a much different kind of brute force. They need to be actual "keepers of the peace."

3/ For so much less money than we now spend on police, we could create conditions that prevent societal pathology in the first place. This is why, domestically and internationally, America needs a Department of Peace. Ideas once deemed silly are now recognized as urgently needed.

Excessive force is rampant I see it in my own community. Have seen people who have been in holds in County jails released without any coats in freezing temperatures. They way the criminal “justice system” treats people is inhumane.

Does the 911 operator decide who to send? Police, social worker, nurse, psychologist, etc......

I agree ... replace the Police with something else ... with a group of people that care about others ... and maybe you're right to call them social workers/ communicators/ citizen patrols ... whatever they're called ... they need to be well educated, well screened and different!

Change Police to Peacekeepers. Train them to be social workers and farmers first before they can put on a uniform .

And all of it requires good judgment- which is observably not a skill they look for in recruitment nor train.

I've thought too, although it is off topic, that we should turn the DoD into a D4E. Get those folks planting trees, creating barrier reefs, setting up desalinization plants, creating pipes to push the desalinized water into the watershed areas to mimic nature. Clean up messes!

Friendly reminder that nurses have to restrain violent, confused, intoxicated, and belligerent people all the time. And we make it happen without crushing anyone’s windpipe. #BlackLivesMatter
