So about those mayors that we all thought were pretty socially enlightened guys. Is it that they were lying the whole time, or that they themselves are scared and are basically incapable of controlling their police forces? Trying to figure this one out.

Great question!

I DO think many of our pilice forces are over funded; extremely powerful and many are afraid to rein them in.

Depends on the structure of the Government. R Police Chiefs & Sheriffs Independently Elected? Then they have 0 power. Is the City governed in whole or in part by a City Council? Is the Mayorship a ceremonial role? I never know what the Government of a city is until I research it

dont think for a second that mayors arent afraid their own police force might 'off' them if they cross the cops

It’s a much deeper problem than that even. The police are underpaid under educated and under trained. Unless that is integrated with changing the temperature in those police agencies, I think the problems will just cycle

like barrack himself said, this isn't an either/or, this is a both/and situation

I think we know lip service when we see it. & it continues across the board. I just saw an Amazon ad the claimed ‘Solidarity w/ BLM’ disgusting faux media blitz.

They, like damn near every other politician, are utterly beholden to their donors. So few are elected without having to sacrifice their integrity. Democrat or Republican, the line between them is being blurred.

NYPD and LAPD in particular are very powerful. Moreso than their mayors. Only way to weaken them is to defund. What was once necessary to curb violence in the early 90s has gone too far the other way.
