So when various mayors say they truly understand and respect peaceful protesters - yet then their own police get violent toward those protesters - does this mean the mayors do not have control of their police forces? Actions speak louder than words.

It means you and the mayors don't have to be out in the streets with the police trying to protect and have no idea what it's like or what's going on out there.

Often they don't. The powers of mayors varies greatly from city to city. And the police unions are often political donors and put out political fliers...

Dem Party tells urban cities to vote Democrat for change. Cities have voted Democrat for over a half-century on those promises. Maybe time to try something different? Or more of the same promises?
